The first time I witnessed birth, I was fourteen, watching my niece arrive earthside in a dim room where my sister-in-law calmly birthed, leaning into the support of my brother. I stood awe-stuck, tears streaming down my face. It was the most powerful and amazing thing I had ever seen in my life.
That experience impacted me deeply and years later, when was I pregnant with my first child, I began to devour books on birth, pregnancy, and motherhood. My first experience with giving birth in 2003 was a humbling and transformational mind blow, and it launched me onto my path of exploring birth.
Over the next several years, I started working as a doula (certified by DONA and, locally, with Nurturing Hearts,) I focused in on prenatal yoga as my specialty as a yoga teacher (ERYT-500), and I began doing placenta encapsulations. During this time I also began midwifery book studies and gave birth to my second daughter.
In addition to birth work, I have owned and managed yoga centers, taught yoga since since 1997, and worked in non-profit administration and marketing support. I am a freelance writer, specializing in yoga and birth related topics. (You can see some of my most recent articles on Yogamint.com.) I am a wife and the mother of two daughters, who I consider to be two of my greatest teachers in life.
